The only one I can find at a recognized school, and it is a DBA, not a Ph.D., is at Aston University. One website I looked at mentioned Open University, but their own website describes their program as a full-time onsite program. This is something I've been looking at too, since I am Dean at a business school at which several of my full-time faculty are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. and, if they do one, want a quality program, but cannot take the time away from work to do a traditional program. I should warn you that the distance programs will only benefit you if you are already employed and want to remain with your current employer. Other than in accounting, for which there is such a shortage that schools are desperate and would be willing to hire almost anyone with any sort of doctorate, most schools just don't hire faculty from the current distance learning programs, because they just aren't of equivalent quality to most of the traditional programs. The mentorship required for a research degree just doesn't translate well to that format.

Some universities in the U.S. now do accept GRE in lieu of GMAT for MBA / Ph.D. in Management. Examples include Indiana Institute of Technology, Southwest Minnesota State University, and University of Virginia. Your best bet would be to visit the websites of the universities you're interested in and check the details. For more info and FAQ on how to apply for M.S. / MBA in U.S. universities, you may read: http://www.bukisa.com/articles/94327_want-to-go-to-america-for-a-ms-degree For scholarship / financial aid / jobs info in American universities, you may read: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1764840/getting_financial_aid_to_study_at_american.html Good wishes to you. Administration and Management are on the same page! Check the schools you are considering attending. If a person's goal is a PhD in Management - ask what the ideal student has as their education background. Ask what areas students with a MBA tend to study for their PhD?.

The average 9 month salary for new management PhD at an AACSB school is $101.8k and there is usually 2/9ths support for summer, making the total average annual salary $124.4k per year. Of course, the school and the country come into play, and I don't know where to find data on that.

Industrial Engineering: Overall employment of industrial engineers, including health and safety, is projected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2012. In addition, many openings will be created by the need to replace industrial engineers who transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force. Employment of industrial engineers is expected to increase as fast as the average while that of health and safety engineers is expected to grow more slowly than average. Median annual earnings of industrial engineers were $62,150 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $50,160 and $75,440. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $40,380, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $90,420. Median annual earnings in the manufacturing industries employing the largest numbers of industrial engineers in 2002 were: Semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing $67,460 Navigational, measuring, electromedical, and control instruments manufacturing 65,470 Architectural, engineering, and related services 64,020 Aerospace products and parts manufacturing 63,630 Motor vehicle parts manufacturing 62,610 Median annual earnings of health and safety engineers were $58,010 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $46,580 and $71,980. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $37,230, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $87,250. According to a 2003 salary survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, bachelorĂ¢€™s degree candidates in industrial/manufacturing engineering received starting offers averaging about $47,051 a year and masterĂ¢€™s degree candidates averaged $54,565 a year. Operations Management: Keen competition is expected for top executive positions, with the prestige and high pay attracting a large number of qualified applicants. Because this is a large occupation, numerous openings will occur each year as executives transfer to other positions, start their own businesses, or retire. However, many executives who leave their jobs transfer to other executive positions, which tend to limit the number of job openings for new entrants. Experienced managers whose accomplishments reflect strong leadership qualities and the ability to improve the efficiency or competitive position of an organization will have the best opportunities. In an increasingly global economy, experience in international economics, marketing, information systems, and knowledge of several languages also may be beneficial. Top executives are among the highest paid workers in the U.S. economy. However, salary levels vary substantially depending upon the level of managerial responsibility, length of service, and type, size, and location of the firm. For example, a top manager in a very large corporation can earn significantly more than a counterpart in a small firm. Median annual earnings of general and operations managers in 2002 were $68,210. The middle 50 percent earned between $45,720 and $104,970. Because the specific responsibilities of general and operations managers vary significantly within industries, earnings also tend to vary considerably. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of general and operations managers in 2002 were: Management of companies and enterprises $94,600 Building equipment contractors 74,550 Depository credit intermediation 68,110 Local government 60,470 Grocery stores 44,980 Median annual earnings of chief executives in 2002 were $126,260. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of chief executives in 2002 were: Management of companies and enterprises $145,600 Architectural, engineering, and related services 133,880 Depository credit intermediation 123,220 Colleges, universities, and professional schools 103,120 Local government 73,990

Usually all graduate students especially PhD students get admitted with a promise of funding which would include the entire tuition and monthly allowance. I am not sure if the allowance will be enough to support your family but i know a lot of people work (real job) and study part-time. I am not sure if PhD is allowed part-time and even if you were allowed, it would be tough working full time and doing your PhD research. Hope this helps!

well it depends on a lot of variables, like how good of a students you are, what school your attending, your career path etc... like for me im going to for a double major in business managment and psychology. it dpends on the requirements of the major. for me i take my standard bachelors degree and if my grades are good enough i'm able to skip right to my PhD, but the average PhD can take anywhere from 3-5 years to complete but all the hard work is DEFINETELY worth it in the end!

If you manage your time well, perhaps 16 months.

I have a PhD in Business Administration. My degree is in Finance, but degrees are also offered in Management, Marketing, Operations Research, Strategy and Accounting. Finance students usually finish in four or five years. Management students usually take another two years. Technically, a master's degree is not needed before getting in -- but Business Schools are harder to get into than any other discipline (the year I applied, there were almost 300 applications for Finance and nine were accepted -- management is only a little easier to get into than finance). Many of the management students had an MBA or a graduate degree in a related field (like psychology). Typically, students take two or three years of classes. After the second year, there is a written exam (mine was two days). After the third or fourth year, there is an oral exam. Then comes the dissertation and the defense. you should only do this if you really want to do research.

Taranto is right. Do it only if you want to do research. A Ph.D in management is absolutely useless for getting a real world job. Getting an MBA will give you a better edge.
